FAQ’s

I’m not VAT-registered – can we still work together?

Our clients are all either VAT-registered or on their way to becoming VAT-registered (and that transition is something we can help with). If you don’t want to go VAT-registered or it’s probably a couple of years off for you, we won’t be the best fit at this moment in time.

Do you work with businesses outside your local area?

Absolutely – as much as we love Deal, our work is virtual.

Will you contact HMRC on my behalf?

Yes, whenever possible. We do this by registering as your tax agent. Occasionally, there might be something you have to speak to them about yourself, but in this situation we’ll always provide you with the information you need.

How involved do I need to be in the bookkeeping?

That’s totally up to you! We provide software and set up support to simplify it as much as possible for you; however, we won’t be offended if you book on for our add-on bookkeeping services if you still can't stand the sight of it!

What happens if I fall behind with my records?

We’ll send quarterly reminders to update your records because we can only work with what we’ve got – this goes for both government compliance things, and also your reports and advice. If you’re really worried about not being able to get them ready in time, please just message us, and we’ll see what we can do.

Do I have to use your software?

We require all of our clients to use Quickbooks and Apron as their accounting and receipts software, because they’re the best on the market for what we – and you – need. You don’t have to pay any extra for them, though – the fee is all included in your subscription. We’ll also set the software up for you, so you don’t need to worry about having it in place in advance.

How do you communicate with clients?

Pretty much every which way, bar semaphore and smoke signals: Whatsapp messages, Voicenotes, email and phone. Most of our clients use whatsapp because it helps them get their thoughts/ideas across quickest and easiest!

Do you offer one-off advice sessions?

We don’t offer these at the moment because our advice is based on a lot of detail and a deep understanding of your personal situation, which we simply can’t do in a shorter setting.

When is the best time to switch accountants?

We recommend switching at the end of a VAT quarter. This makes the data handover from your previous accountant nice and clean. Switching shouldn’t be a headache, so we will always talk it through with you and take your situation into account.
